• Biography

  Minnaloushe was born not in a litter, but on her own on a rainy June night. Afterwords she spent most of her childhood growing up with her mother. Her Father often took her older brother with him on 'hunting' trips, leaving young Minni behind. When they were home, They would talk about the souls they had collected and glorify what they did, never making it sound like what they were doing could possibly be a bad thing. Minnaloushe would listen fervently, finding what they did and at the time what she could do fascinating. Eventually when she was old enough, she pleaded to go along with them on their trips.
  
  For years she would travel with them, and when they discovered she was much more talented at the 'retrieval' process her Father and Brother would do the hard part of finding the recently dead so that she could collect their souls. As time went on she grew tired with it and began to wonder what happened to the souls they collected and used. Once they were used, did the people they once belonged to finally move on? Were they just destroyed and the people robbed of their chance of an afterlife? Just as doubt began to run through her head, she discovered just how her Father and Brother were so apt at collecting the recently deceased, and it had much less to do with finding them and much more to do with causing them.
  
  Disgusted with what they had been doing and what she had been an accomplice to, she ran away as far as she could manage. She vowed never to take another soul, and continued living on her own until she was seventeen. While away from her family she made it by mostly by sneaking food from windowsills and trashcans as a cat, spending most of her time in her true form. Most of the people she let into her life that discovered what she was tried to use it to their advantage, enamored with the idea of power that could be gained by using souls. Because of this she avoided shifting from her true form at all, deciding life as a cat was much easier.
  
  Not long after she turned seventeen, a elderly woman discovered her after she had snuck through her kitchen window to eat the food she had left cooling on the counter. Minnaloushe braced herself and turned to run back through the window, but before she could she heard the woman call out for her to wait. She found herself staying put, turning in surprise that rather than chase off the apparently stray cat this woman would instead speak to it kindly. In the end she spent three years with the old woman, playing the part of her cat, leaving as she wished but always coming back to this home in the end. The woman was sweet and treated her well, sometimes cooking that first meal that she caught Minni eating just for old times sake. She reminded her of her mother that she had never returned to since she left the others, and she never wanted to leave the warmth of her small home.
  
  Then, one winter the weather claimed the elderly woman. Before she passed she confided in her cat that she knew what she was all along, assuming her first sight of her was a sign that her time was coming. She admitted the idea of the afterlife terrified her, and pleaded with her friend to protect her soul for her instead. Minnaloushe was torn, having vowed not to take another's soul again, but eventually found herself unable to deny her dying request. She changed to her more human appearance, smiling down and holding her friend's hand until she passed.
  
  To this day she wears the strange glowing gem around her neck, the last remainder of the woman who took her in despite knowing what she was, proof that not everyone that she met was manipulative.
